Schneider's historical Variogon publication specifies a 4.9 × 3.6 mm Normal-8 frame and lists the Variogon 2.8/10–40 for that format. Its 6.08 mm diagonal is the minimum frame-coverage reference, not a measured limit of the lens's illuminated image circle.
