Biography

Mikhail Mikhailovich Rusinov, named Michael Michaelovitch Roossinov in his U.S. patents, was a Soviet optical designer associated with the Russar family of wide-angle aerial-survey objectives. His early designs used strongly curved exterior menisci and aberrational vignetting to improve illumination across very wide fields. The Russar-21, -22, -23 and -24 series received recognition in 1941. His later work at LITMO, now ITMO University, extended into photogrammetry and space imaging. Russar identifies this design tradition; it does not establish one manufacturer for all of its lenses.
